The fact that a young adult is an Eagle Scout has always carried with it a special significance, not only in Scouting but also as he enters higher education, business or industry, and community service. The award is a performance-based achievement whose standards have been well-maintained over the years. Not every Scout who joins a Scout BSA Troop earns the Eagle Scout rank; only about 5 percent of all Scouts do so. This represents more than 2 million Scouts who have earned the rank since 1912. Nevertheless, the goals of Scouting—citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness—remain important for all Scouts, whether or not they attain the Eagle Scout rank.
Eagle Scouts have achieved an outstanding accomplishment and deserve special recognition. Sometimes it is hard to pinpoint the appropriate recognition that would be truly meaningful. Here are some ideas:
- Encourage new Eagle Scouts to join ESA-AAC. It’s free and simple.
- Encourage Eagle Scouts to submit their Eagle Scout project for the Adams Project of the Year Award before the January deadline.
- Look for the Eagle Scouts name on the Eagle Scout wall located in front of the Scout Service Center located at 2226 NW Military Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78213. The wall is updated annually.
- Honor the Eagle Scout with a James E. West Fellowship Award.
- Purchase a membership to the National Eagle Scout Association.
- $100 5-year membership or $500 Lifetime Membership
- Encourage the Eagle Scout to apply for scholarships available for Eagle Scouts.
- The Scout Shop has a variety of gifts for Eagle Scouts.
- Conduct a meaningful Eagle Scout Court of Honor.
